As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points or at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.

Text: Submission in German or English. The manuscript should be structured as follows: Title, name(s) of author(s), abstract, text body (with chapters and paragraphs), notes, references, captions, addresse(s) and affiliation(s). The submitted file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word or RTF document file format. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font and employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).

If submitted in German, an English abstract and English captions are obligatory. 5–7 keywords for indexing purposes have to be added, either in English or German. We recommend to give spatial information as well as using keywords to outline the topic and the methodological approach.

Citations: Citations should be placed directly in the text, giving the name of the author and year of publication in brackets

=> for example: (Chapman 2012).

if necessary the relevant pagenumber(s) and/or figures.

=> for example: (Chapman 2012, 20 fig. 10).

All citations are to be added in alphabetical order at the end of the text (= list of references, see examples below). Where available, URLs for the references have been provided. The citation should include all page numbers (for example: 272–278 with regard to articles), as well as the full title of the series, the number of the volume and (in case of monographs) the printing place and year.

We strongly recommend authors, if possible, to use our style conforming to the Citation Style Language, used, for example, with Zotero.
